Point of View: The Story (chapter 4)

"This is a work of fiction. Any names or characters, businesses or places, events or incidents, are fictitious. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental."

*Notice:

The characters in this story speak in multiple languages, depending on the situation. But because I only write it in one language, I would like to give some signs to tell you what language they are speaking.

  • If a person speaks in Khmer, the font is normal e.g. “Hello!”

  • If a person speaks in English, the font is oblique e.g. "Hello!”

  • If a person speaks in Japanese, the font is bold e.g. "Hello!"

Part 1: The Departure (continued)

Whatever… it is not my problem!

For now, sleeping is better!

I close my eyes. This time, even if my dream is extremely weird or it becomes a nightmare, I believe that when I open my eyes, the beautiful reality is awaiting for me.

In this last few weeks since the result came out, I became busier. I issued for a passport, went to the Cambodia-Japan Embassy and the university to prepare some important document for going abroad.

Not only that, but I also have to learn some basic Japanese like hiragana and katakana beforehand. Well, I have always wanted to learn Japanese for a long time. Now that I have a reason to study, I put all my heart into it.

Today, free from all the work mentioned above, I decide to stay at the rental room and watch anime.

The anime that I watch this time is called “Hell Girl”, a story about revenge and the exchange for that revenge. Various characters decided to make contract with Hell Girl to put their souls into hell after their death just so that she would revenge for them.

I was so into the plot that after 2-3 episodes, I sit on a chair like L from Death Note and get stuck in my own train of thought.

If I got both physically and mentally abused, would I dare to exchange my soul for a revenge?

I think I would! A cruel person who try to make me (or anyone) suffer deserve their punishment!

For my soul… it would go to hell… but it would only after I died!

After my death, I wonder if I would sense the pain of falling into hell. I mean… I had already died!

Until I went to hell, I had only one thing to think about! I had to escape from the hell of abuse I was facing right now!

Click!

I turn my head toward the door and see Ravy walking into the room while talking on the phone.

“I haven’t prepared the luggage yet, but it’s okay! It won’t take long.”

Ravy stands in the middle of the room, concentrating on listening to the other side of the phone who may be her sister.

“Okay! I know that my clothes can be compared to a mountain, but trust me, it won’t take long! I can manage them! Also, there’s no need to rush, right?”

Ravy listens to the phone, nods alone, and finishes the call. She looks at me who still in L’s pose.

“I’m gonna leave the day after tomorrow.”

“Oh! Okay!”

“What about you?”

“Umm… maybe next week”

“I see”

Ravy drops her bag on the bed and sits there, scrolling the phone again.

Should I ask her about that revenge thing?

Compare to me, Ravy has been going through many awful things regarding her relationship. So she may have some interesting opinion on that.

“Vy! Can I ask you something?”

She replies without looking at me.

“Hmm? Okay.”

“Would you make a contract with someone and exchange your soul so that he would revenge on a person who hurt you physically and mentally?”

She stops focusing on the phone and stares at me.

“The condition is that your soul will go to hell after you die.”

She keeps on gazing at me and then answers after thinking for only 3 seconds.

“I would not do that.”

“Hah! Why?!”

“I don’t know. I’m just like that! I got betrayed but I still don’t want to revenge! Also, in this case there’s someone revenges for me. I don’t want that! If I wanted to take revenge, I would do it by myself! That’s way more satisfied! Don’t you think so?”

“Wow! I didn’t expect that!”

Suddenly, my brain is unlocked for another question.

“So, between boyfriend betrayal and friend betrayal, which one do you hate more?”

“Of course, it’s the friend one! Boyfriend-girlfriend relationship can be just a special thing for a period of time. But for friendship, it’s really priceless! It builds for a very, very long time and it goes on forever! That’s why I really hate when a friend destroys my trust!”

Ravy explains and gazes at me casually, making me wonder if her answer was purposely implied to me or not…

“And why did you ask this revenge thing?”

“Oh! I’ve just watched an anime whose theme is about that.”

Anime again?! Come one Kla! I’m tired of this!”

She turns back to her phone again, leaving me staying still on the chair.

Not just the fact that my hobby got pissed off, but there is also another reason…

A reason that I really, really want to forget, but I cannot and I should not…

“Kla! Why did you hide the fact that you applied for a scholarship exam from me?!”

Ravy, sitting on my left, started a personal interrogation with me.

We, in our high school uniform, fell into a pit of mistrust…

She gazed at me without a blink. Both of her eyes sharply pierced into mine as if trying gouge them out to check for truth behind them. Her face said ‘How dare you did this to me?!!!’ so loudly that my body became unable to move.

For some reason, however, I could not turn my eyes away  from those disappointed eyes. As if it was glued, my mouth could not opened at all.

Yes… I purposely hid it from her.

However, you cannot hide an elephant corpse with an umbrella, so of course she would find out.

I knew that she found out, but I did not expect that she would directly ask me like this.

“…”

“Do you think I’m too stupid to even take the exam?!! Is that why you didn’t tell me?!!”

No…

It’s not like that…

You know better than anyone that it’s not like that…

You’ve already known the truth…

I…

I just… don’t want anyone to get in the way of my success…

That’s all…
