Can Gays Cause the Decrease of Human Resources?

Recently, I stumbled upon a Facebook post where two Cambodian women got married to each other happily. Well, almost, if they realized that their lives and choices were criticized by some homophobic people on the internet (they should not care anyway). Some commented tasteless jokes and some said that Cambodia will lose its human resources in the future if this keeps happening.

At first, I did not want to deal with this kind of meaningless hate. However, there were some voice in my head which urged me to write this article which no one will care about. So, here it is, my thought on losing human resources in Cambodia due to LGBTQIA+ people.

From what they said, we can imply that they mean that if there are more gays in Cambodia, the population will decrease and thus there will be less people for developing the country. They focus on the number. But… do you really believe that the population is that easily reduced just by the gays? I have never heard such thing. Instead, the rough economics, prolonged working hour and terrible working ethic, and unforgiving social norm are the usual factors of decreasing population, thus the human resources. Also, now that the medical sciences is more developed than ever, same-sex couples can still have children as long as they can afford the medical service. (And for those who think that it is unnatural to do something like that, read until the end.)

Moreover, human resources is not always about the number of people, but it should be more about the quality. Even if there were 1 million more children born in a year in Cambodia, but the country is still drown in poverty, economic issue, inadequacy of educational or medical accessibility, and corruption, these children could not become good human resources. Therefore, rather than blaming on the gays, we should focus on improve ourselves and our society.

Finally, here is a speech which is relevant to this argument.

“If birthing children is a condition of legitimate love, then heterosexual couples who are unable to conceive must not valid either. And if being natural is desirable, should you refuse medical treatment when you’re sick? Medical science defies the course of nature in every instance of its use.” _ Rae Taylor from “I’m in Love with the Villainess” by Inori.

P.S. I cannot believe I referenced a Japanese isekai light novel to make my point! But this series is actually great! It tackles LGBTQIA+ issues really well, which is not usually expected from an isekai light novel. I love this book so much! I cannot recommend it enough, especially for people who love isekai or LGBTQIA+ fictions.
